Peter Davis is a board-certified, licensed music therapist, a faculty member of the Music Therapy Institute of the Music Conservatory of Westchester, a member of the music therapy dementia-care team at MJHS’s Menorah Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Care, Brooklyn, NY, and a member of the Lenox Hill Hospital Hospice and Palliative Care Team, located on New York City’s upper east side.

In October 2021, under the direction of the MJHS Palliative Care Institute, and in concert with members of the Menorah Dementia Care Team, Peter moderated a webinar entitled: "Music Therapy in the Care of Nursing Home Residents with Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias." The webinar discussed and demonstrated methodologies that can be employed in the nursing home by music therapists to address problematic symptoms that accompany cognitive decline. Additionally, it provided a unique look into our unique and culturally inclusive music therapy model that successfully performs in collaboration with therapeutic art and CNA-led music-based activities such as music listening, and music with movement.      Peter’s Dementia Care Music Therapy Theoretical Framework, in PDF form, can be accessed by clicking here.

Also in PDF form, Peter discusses how music therapy for people with dementia (and their caregivers) aligns with the practice of Creative Aging, and how Universal Design can be viewed through a music therapy framework. To access this page, please click here.

Prior to joining the dementia-care team at MJHS’s Menorah Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing Care, Peter provided music therapy services for the Sarah Neuman Center, Mamaroneck, NY; the Knolls, Valhalla, NY; the Haven at the Kensington Assisted Living Residence, White Plains, NY; Adira at Riverside Rehabilitation, Yonkers, NY; and provided music therapy services for the Care Program at the Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, NYC from June 2016 to June 2017. Additionally, Peter provided music therapy services for Brightview Senior Living, Tarrytown, NY, and continues to provide dementia-care services for individual clients in their homes.      Peter received his Master of Science Degree in Music Therapy from Molloy College, Long Island, New York. Click here to read Peter's Master's Thesis: “The Role of the Musical-Self in Promoting Career Longevity Among Music Therapists.”

Peter is a professional singer, songwriter, and entertainer whose specialty is music for the early-childhood, developmentally delayed, and special needs communities. As part of his professional training, Peter completed a study in Abnormal Psychology with Dr. Jonathan Gibralter, President of Frostburg State University, Maryland. At the completion of the study, Dr. Gibralter kindly wrote a letter of recommendation for Peter. Click here to view the letter as well as three of the essays Peter wrote for the study.

As a music therapist, Peter is guided by a simple, yet clear philosophy: Create music experiences and interventions that provide each individual with opportunities for success. Additionally, Peter works with children and adults who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In working with this clientele, Peter uses purposefully designed music interventions that address the core deficits of ASD, which include speech, language, and communication deficits; social and emotional deficits, emotional attunement; shared attention; reciprocity; and engagement and relatedness.

Peter also works with clients who are multiple handicapped, medically fragile, developmentally delayed, intellectually disabled, and physically challenged. These clients benefit from the application of music therapy in a number of ways, including an increased awareness of and engagement with their environment; increased receptive, expressive, and communicative abilities; increased range of physicality and movement; a heightened sense of affect and relatedness; and a greater sense of community, belonging, accomplishment, and self-worth.

As part of his professional training, Peter completed an internship at the Esther Ashkensas Central Park Early Learning Center, located near Lincoln Center, New York City. There, Peter was fortunate to work with the teachers and staff who, through their talent, training, hard work, and dedication, helped these young students bridge their challenges and join the journey of life that many of us take for granted. The results and milestones achieved on this journey were heartbreaking, inspiring, and in many cases, miraculous. Beth Rosenthal, Principal of the Central Park Early Learning Center, gave Peter a wonderful letter of reference for his work with the students. Click here to view the letter.

An original cast member of The Tony Award winning Broadway Musical City Of Angels, Peter is a top session singer, arranger, and conductor with clients such as Martha Stewart, Verizon, IBM, and Chevrolet. Peter sang for Family Guy Sings! at Carnegie Hall, The Rosie O'Donnell Christmas Special, Garth Brooks: The Magic of Christmas, the hit movies Corpse Bride, The Stepford Wives, and Mission To Mars, and headlined an original musical tribute to NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Please click here to listen to Peter's session singer vocal reel.

Peter's long-time passion and expertise is close-harmony group singing. Here are three examples of Peter singing all the vocals to Close Your Eyes, A Lovely Way To Spend The Evening, and Close Your Eyes acapella.

Peter recently posted a "Best Hits" page which contains several classic Peter Davis recordings from the children's and pop genre. Click here to view the Best Hits page.

Peter's warm, engaging personality and exciting, fun family concerts are the reason his fans call him Awesome, Outstanding, and A Real Crowd Pleaser! The North Dakota Library Association chose Peter's song, Lookin' It Up At The Library to kick off their annual statewide conference, and Kraft Foods called on Peter to perform his original song, Blue Box Blues at their National Blue Box Contest Awards. Peter composed the The Heart Beats Strong, theme song for the Second Annual Search and Rescue and Service Dog Day Event, the largest Service Dog event in the world.

Together with celebrated pianist/producer Yaron Gershovsky, Peter wrote and released his second family CD, Brand New, featuring twelve original lullabyes and love songs for parents and their children. Peter performs the songs from Brand New and his first album, Radio Imagination!™ in his upbeat, interactive family program, The Good Time Show. Songs from both albums can be heard on Sirius-XM Satellite Radio and Jet Blue airlines. Peter is the founder of Monday Morning Music, a weekly workshop for preschool children and their moms, dads, and caregivers. Looking to the future, Peter is committed to creating great family songs and to sharing his talent and passion for outstanding original family music.
